Mind and matter:
Wir erkennen nur so viel, wie wir lieben. Die Liebe ist ein Bindemittel, das zur Wirklichkeit beiträgt. Abgestimmtes Kommunizieren und Handeln gehört dazu. Jede aktive Handlung in diesem Kontext trägt ein Erkenntnispotenzial in sich. Auch Sprache schafft Wirklichkeit.
Wir sprechen aus, was man im aufmerksamen Gegenüber aussprechen darf: Faschismus, Rassismus, Homophobie, jegliche Form von Missbrauch, Diskriminierung, Patriarchat und Gewalt ist eine zerstörende und damit nicht bindende Materie des Lebens.
Das Künstlerkollektiv „New Ground“ folgt der Erkundung der Evolution und der menschlichen Bedingung und ihrer Notwendigkeit. Die Künstler*innen setzen einen Prozess der kollektiven Abstimmung in Gang und kanalisieren zwischenmenschliche Energien, um Gemeinschaft zu stiften; um zusammenzufügen.
„Mind and matter“. Fühlen uns verantwortlich uns mit künstlerisch ästhetischen Mitteln zu äußern und verbinden uns mit all denjenigen, die sich als Bindemittel in einer immer stärker werdenden faschistoiden Welt verstehen und sich damit gegen Hass und Gewalt positionieren.

We only recognise as much as we love. Love is a binding agent that contributes to reality. Co-ordinated communication and action are part of this. Every active action in this context carries a potential for realisation. Language also creates reality.
We say what we are allowed to say in attentive dialogue. Fascism, racism, homophobia, any form of abuse, discrimination, patriarchy and violence is a destructive and therefore non-binding part of life.
The artist collective ‘New Ground’ follows the exploration of evolution and the human condition and its necessity. The artists initiate a process of collective coordination and channel interpersonal energies to create community; to join together.
‘Mind and matter’. We feel a responsible to express ourselves with artistic and aesthetic means and join forces with all those who perceive themselves as a binding agent in an increasingly fascist world and thus position themselves against hatred and violence.

Im „Lockdown“ 2020 gründet der Bildender Künstler und Musiker Frank Campoi das Künstlerkollektiv New Ground Performance. Erste instrumentale Skizzen entstehen. Textfragmente entnimmt er dem Buch „Synthetic Worlds“ von Esther Leslie (Prof. of Political Aesthetics, Fellow of British Academy of Arts, Birbeck University of London). Die Textfragmente ihrer wissenschaftlichen Expertise fließen als Cut Up mit ihrem Einverständnis in die geplante Bühnenperformance. Die Auswirkungen der Industrialisierung auf den Menschen und die Natur stehen zunächst im thematischen Blickpunkt. Gemeinsam mit dem bildenden Künstler und Musiker Johannes Frericks entstehen im Verlauf des zunächst rein digitalen Austausch experimentelle Industrial Sounds und selbst produzierte Sampler, die aufgrund der Lockdownzeiträume zunächst nur im digitalen Arrangement zusammengeführt werden können.
2021 übernimmt die Schauspielerin und Sängerin Julia Dorothee Brunsch die Vocal- Performance und Teile der Raum-Bild-Projektion. Auch dieser Austausch erfolgte im Zeitraum der Lockdowns lediglich über E-Mails, Whatsapp Nachrichten und Telefongespräche. Auch die Tonaufnahmen für die Vocal Interpretationen konnten in diesem Zeitraum nur digital übermittelt werden. Nach und nach entstand ein Sound-, Text- und Bild Arrangement, das sich aufgrund der physischen Distanz der Künstler*innen sehr experimentell und unvorhersehbar verhält.
2021 erhält Frank Campoi die Förderung der Erwin und Gisela Steiner Stiftung und im Dezember 2022 die Projektförderung des Musikfonds (Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien). Mit den Fördermitteln konnte dem Kollektiv u.a. das nötige Equipment bereitgestellt werden. Die ersten physischen Proben im alten Berliner Funkhaus ermöglichen im Anschluss die ersten live Auftritte. Die aus Island stammende Künstlerin Erla Svanlaug – Riedel wird Teil des Kollektivs; arrangiert und steuert die Live Bildgestaltung.
Im Juni 2022 findet der erste Auftritt des Ensembles im Berliner Delphi Theater statt. Es folgen Einladungen für das Gender Project in der Alten Münze in Berlin, der Ballonfabrik in Augsburg und dem Kulturzentrum Kaminwerk in Memmingen. Die New Ground folgt anschließend der Einladung der italienischen Künstlerin Marinella Senatore für einen Poetry Workshop im Museum Villa Stuck in München und nimmt Teil an der Parade „The School Of Narrative Dance“ (Kooperation mit dem Museum Villa Stuck, München).
Die aus California stammende Sängerin und Musikerin Hazel Iris übernimmt seit 2023 die Keyboard und Synthesizer Sounds.
2024 nimmt die erweiterte Gruppe Teil am Krassau Punkfestival in Saming, Österreich. Eine weitere Aufführung ergibt sich in der Ballonfabrik, Augsburg.

In ‘Lockdown’ 2020, visual artist and musician Frank Campoi founds the artist collective New Ground Performance. First instrumental sketches are created. He takes text fragments from the book ‘Synthetic Worlds’ by Esther Leslie (Prof. of Political Aesthetics, Fellow of British Academy of Arts, Birbeck University of London). With her consent, the text fragments of her scientific expertise are incorporated into the planned stage performance as a cut-up. The effects of industrialisation on people and nature are the initial thematic focus. Together with the visual artist and musician Johannes Frericks, experimental industrial sounds and self-produced samplers are created in the course of the initially purely digital exchange, which can initially only be brought together in digital arrangements due to the lockdown periods.
In 2021, actress and singer Julia Dorothee Brunsch took over the vocal performance and parts of the spatial image projection. During the lockdown, this exchange also only took place via emails, WhatsApp messages and phone calls. The sound recordings for the vocal interpretations could also only be transmitted digitally during this period. Gradually, a sound, text and image arrangement was created that was very experimental and unpredictable due to the physical distance between the artists.
In 2021, Frank Campoi received funding from the Erwin and Gisela Steiner Foundation and in December 2022 project funding from the Musikfonds (Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media). The funding provided the collective with the necessary equipment, among other things. The first physical rehearsals in the old Berlin Funkhaus will subsequently enable the first live performances. The Icelandic artist Erla Svanlaug - Riedel becomes part of the collective, arranging and directing the live visuals.
In June 2022, the ensemble's first performance takes place at the Delphi Theatre in Berlin.
